Deewani Khwaja ki Deewani

One of their more famous ones (with many versions!), Deewani Kwaja ki Deewani (which roughly translates to ‘Enchanted…enchanted by Kwaja’) is a Qawwali in praise of Kwaja Gharib Nawaz, or Mouinudin Chisti (Radi Allahu anhu). He was an Islamic Scholar who established the Chisti order of Sufisim in India, and his shrine is located in Ajmer Sharif.  He (Radi Allahu anhu) was also a direct descendant of the Prophet Mohammad (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam).

The Best of the Sabri Brothers – Part 1

I know my posts are usually about movies, but I wanted to share some Qawwali’s from my favorite music artists.

A Qawwali is a form of Islamic Sufi music that is popular in South Asia, most notably Pakistan, and it is often performed in Sufi shrines or dargahs. Sufi saint Amir Khusro Dehlavi of the Chisti order of Sufis is credited with fusing the Persian, Arabic, Turkish, and Indian musical traditions to create Qawwali in the late 13th century in India.
