Some Thoughts on Modern-Day Feminism in Film

Hello there

A while ago I suggested a poll on IMDb here: http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000088/nest/252015902

I called it “2015 – The Year of the Feminist” since I felt the year saw a number of movies with females in strong prominent roles.

It sparks some responses on the use of the work “feminism”. Most notably the quote below:

“If we say that 2015 was a feminist year, it’s like highlighting the existence of a deliberate marketing or political trend… well, I don’t know, maybe it’s true.”

Ranked: David Fincher’s Filmography

I really enjoy David Fincher’s movies. I’m not crazy about any of them and aside from a couple I don’t hate any of them. He makes good thrillers and I look out for his movies whenever a new one is announced. It’s weird though because I don’t really consider myself a huge fan of him. His movies don’t make that much of a lasting impression on me, I guess, despite the fact that I take great pleasure in watching them.

When you look at his filmography from a technical perspective, there is a clear evolving of his craft. The tracking camera movements become more fluid, the use of low-key lighting and static camera perspectives are sharper in later films, but I also feel that the material he chooses to tackle have become less edgy than his projects from the 90’s, aside from one here and there. Still, it’s always an event when there’s a new Fincher movie out.

The Problem with Tarantino and his Fan-base…

Hello people. A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post on IMDb where I shared some thoughts on Tarantino and his avid supporters that I was itching to get off my back. I enjoy his movies, but I don’t have the highest opinion of him and I detest the actions of fans who jump to defend their favorite film-maker without giving a credible argument, as a few people did on the post.

Ash vs Evil Dead – Season 1 Review

I’m enjoying this TV series quite a bit and am looking forward to season 2. It’s been quite a bumpy ride, with the series starting off well and then trailing off before ending with a bang with the final episode.

I suppose as a fan of the original movies getting a TV series with Bruce Campbell reprising his role as Ash, Sam Raimi involved, and being a direct continuation of the original film series is in itself an incredible achievement, so any complaints I have (and trust me, I have them) are minor compared to my appreciation of the show.
